Effective Classroom: Considerations for EFL/ESL Teaching in Macau, China
2010-11-13

To end 2010 and start a new year right, we had a Teacher Training Seminar last November 13, 2010, on Effective Classroom: Considerations for EFL/ESL Teaching in Macau, China.

The main speaker, Mr. Werner Botha of FEEA, gave us an overview of what classroom management is all about and its importance. He provided some general techniques which can be applied in our own classroom setting. The value of lesson planning and the integration of lesson planning and class management were also tackled. Then other teachers Luffey, Maria, May and Rosanna were invited to discuss specific classroom management cases and sharing of their personal experiences. Before going further in to the functions of behaviour and how to deal with these, we had a brain-storming session about the notions of ‘being in control of the class’, ‘conduct’, ‘lesson planning’, and ‘behaviour’. We then reflected on how these concepts and theories will be applied in our classes. As the seminar ended, the teachers were encouraged to apply the things that they've learned especially in dealing with different kinds of behaviour, the do’s and don’ts in classroom conduct and the techniques for better classroom control. Everyone saw that Classroom Management is quite a broad topic, thus, some have expressed interest to have another seminar of a similar or related topic.

Continuing Education is the key to improve ourselves so as to help others improve themselves. Thus, Jingdou Management ensures us of this as we are now preparing for seminars for the months to come.
